Best Vegan Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe

This is the best ever vegan chocolate sauce for churros, ice cream, pancakes, profiteroles, cake, or just about any of your drizzling needs! It’s super easy to make, vegan, gluten-free, and absolutely delicious. You’ll only need a few minutes and a few pantry items. Hey-presto, you’ll have a hot chocolate sauce ready in a flash for late-night munchies.

Made with coconut milk, this vegan hot fudge sauce is thick and creamy. Naturally sweetened with coconut milk and maple syrup, it’s a healthier option than granulated sugar. This recipe also contains no gluten, which means it’s a gluten-free hot fudge sauce recipe.

If you have a nut allergy you can skip the nut butter, but adding it will leave you with an incredibly rich and delicious chocolate sauce (if you’re not allergic of course).

Make sure to use smooth nut butter, we like the taste of peanut butter but use any nut butter you like.

How easy is this vegan recipe?

So unbelievably easy! You can literally make this chocolate sauce in minutes with 4 or 5 pantry items, a saucepan and a whisk. This is as uncomplicated and yet totally delicious as a chocolate sauce gets.

Worth the Calories

This chocolate sauce is fantastically indulgent, completely delicious, and not a recipe for those on a diet. Although it’s missing refined sugar and better for your teeth; it’s not a salad. Everyone is entitled to a treat though, right? If you’re in the mood for something rich and indulgent, this vegan chocolate sauce seriously won’t disappoint.

Pantry-Friendly

This sauce was born from a need for something sweet and gooey late at night. After a quick rummage in the cupboards, I came up with this delicious chocolate sauce recipe and I’ve been making it ever since. You probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen cupboards. No? Don’t worry, you only need a handful of ingredients all easily found in the supermarkets.

There are only a few essential ingredients needed for this chocolate syrup recipe. The only ingredients needed are coconut milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, vegan chocolate, maple syrup, and optional peanut smooth butter.

Substitutions

Using cacoa powder rather cocoa powder is a more nutritious chocolate fix. It is still delicious, but you might find it a little bitter compared to cocoa powder. You may want to add a little more maple syrup. You could also use agave syrup or Sweet Freedom Choc Shot rather than maple, although I’ve not tried it yet.

The use of peanut butter creates a deliciously moreish, fudgy, thick chocolate sauce. If you aren’t keen on peanut butter you can omit it, or use a different nut butter such as almond butter or cashew butter. But trust me when I say it is so delicious with the peanut butter.

Full Fat or Reduced Fat Coconut Milk?

Either coconut milk or cream will work nicely, the only difference will be the thickness of the sauce. For a pouring sauce use reduced-fat coconut milk. For a thick spread on toast or crumpets; coconut cream or full-fat coconut milk will work best, especially if you leave it in the fridge to cool down. But if you’d like to skip a few calories then go ahead and use reduced-fat, you’ll still get a lovely gooey chocolate sauce.

How to Make this Chocolate Sauce

This recipe really couldn’t get any easier. Try making it yourself. You’ll never waste your money on store-bought chocolate sauces again. Homemade is always better as you can make sure it’s 100% vegan. Most vegan chocolate sauce recipes are made by simply heating coconut cream or milk, dark chocolate and some sweetener together until the sauce thickens. This recipe is no different, you simply heat the coconut milk and add the rest of the ingredients, whisk until smooth and you’re done.

Ingredients
tin reduced fat or full fat coconut milk (roughly 130ml)
cup cocoa powder (or cacao powder)
¼ cup maple syrup (or agave syrup)
 50 g vegan dark chocolate
2 tbsp peanut butter (or other nut butter-optional)

Method:

Heat the coconut milk and cocoa powder in a small saucepan on low heat. Whisk well until the cocoa powder is well combined. Keep whisking intermittently until it reaches a simmer.

2

Once simmering add the dark chocolate, peanut butter and maple syrup and stir well. Reduce to low heat. Don't have the heat too high or the chocolate might burn.

3

Continue to whisk on the heat for about a minute until all the ingredients are nicely melted and the chocolate sauce is smooth.

4

Take off the heat and serve immediately as a hot chocolate sauce or store in a jar/Tupperware in the fridge for a few hours until cooled enough to spread.

Or just eat it with a spoon!
